Pandemic to Endemic Transition and the Role of the Novavax Vaccine

Presented by Dr. Seth Toback, MD

This session will review what occupational health professionals need to know as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves into a more seasonal disease. Discussion will include similarities and differences of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic to seasonal influenza and the characteristics of seasonal vaccines, like the influenza vaccine, that make them acceptable for annual use. As the only traditional protein-based COVID vaccine that will be available in the United States this fall, Novavax COVID vaccine information will be highlighted, including its clinical trial data, co-administration with influenza vaccine, and new data on its impact on work productivity following vaccination.

1. Understand the evolving epidemiology of COVID-19.
2. Learn the mechanism of action of an adjuvanted, protein-based vaccine.

4. Understand the attributes of a COVID vaccine needed for an endemic disease.
